If you think nothing says 'Bank Holiday Weekend' like cannon fire and musket demonstrations, then the Royal Gunpowder Mills have a real treat in store for you. They're celebrating 300 years of explosive history, with everything from old-fashioned gunfire demos to WWII armistice recreations to tours with real Cold War rocket scientists who worked at the site back when it was a research establishment.

With a dog-themed Bark Off Bake Sale, a dog show, and prizes awarded in categories like ‘cutest pup’, 'golden oldies' and ‘best rescue’, this is one for the doggone animal obsessed. Held in support of All Dogs Matter, it's a chance meet some lovely mutts in need of a new home. Get ready to navigate this 300-metre long and 40 hazzards-deep giant inflatable obstacle course. One lap of the course should take about 20 minutes then you can fill up on craft beer, cocktails and street food. This year there's also a whole host of activities to keep you entertained including Boozy Bingo (old school bingo but with impromptu dance-offs), Drag Queen Karaoke, beer pong tables and glitter stations.

In the words of Olivia Newton-John ‘Let's get Physical’ at Hackney Festival of Fitness. The massive three-dayer in Hackney Marshes will bring plenty of fitness fun to East London including the annual Hackney half-marathon, free exercise classes, a 5k community run and heaps more activities where you'll be able to hear your body talk.

Oenophiles rejoice: London Wine Week returns for 2019 with seven days of grapey goings on all across town. This year the digital pass is free, so on May 13-19, Londoners who register will get access to exclusive £5 wine flights ‘sip and snack’ pairings at over 125 participating bars. Wine flights will showcase exciting vintages and the best of select wine regions – so work your way through reds, whites, rosés, oranges and even special sparklers.
